Areas of Focus
Detoxification
Often referred to as simply “detox” is another mainstay of our programs. It is the process of removing or neutralizing harmful substances, or toxins from the body. Detoxification occurs naturally through the body’s own mechanisms, primarily involving the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, and skin. However, with our diet and lifestyle in America, these organ systems are under a lot of pressure, and they become “sluggish”. When they are not working at “optimal” levels toxins begin to accumulate and result in a number of health effects including fatigue, brain fog, pain, hormone disruption, digestive issues, headaches, rashes, depression….to name a few.
Toxic exposure is often a silent culprit behind many chronic health conditions. They can be insidious, affecting your health without clear warning signs or evidence. We are currently bombarded with toxic exposures, in our food, air, water, media, personal and home care products. One of the ways we approach detoxification at Lunar Integrative Medical Group is to gain an understanding of what an individual’s lifetime exposure is, not just their potential current exposure. For example, does a person currently have amalgam (mercury) fillings and if so, for how many years. We also look at if a person at one point had amalgam fillings, when they were removed and how were they removed.
Heavy metals cause significant oxidative damage and also have the ability to displace many essential minerals your body needs to function properly. Other toxic substances that need to be considered are persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as insecticides, like glyphosate and what we refer to as opportunistic infections, which include bacteria, viruses, parasites and mold/fungus.
They are called opportunistic because they can be within our bodies and not create any noticeable health issue, they need an “opportunity” – the right environment for them to thrive. If there has been exposure to heavy metals and POPs that suppress the immune system, you become vulnerable to these opportunistic pathogens. Detoxification can be challenging but it is one of the biggest obstacles to cure and for that it is foundational in our approach to care.
Medication Recovery
Are you tired of medicating symptoms? Whether that is with prescription medications, drugs or alcohol, we offer an out-patient holistic recovery program. Are you struggling with prescribed pharmaceutical medication, we understand that in order to have lasting recovery, the root causes of addiction need to be addressed. Dr. Boyce was trained by Dr. Dave Arneson who have over 20+ years of experience helping people from all walks of life recover from addiction. We utilize a variety of therapies and modalities to provide a comprehensive, supportive and holistic recovery.
In your time with us we’ll address:
- Physical Health - This requires detoxification, proper nutrition, exercise and rest.
- Mental & Emotional Support - This could include therapies such as Integrative Processing Technique (IPT), Emotion Code (EC), Medical Bio-Magnetism, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based practices such as breath work, heart-rate variability, meditation and guided-visualization. These help an individual identify and change negative thought patterns, forgive and move through past traumas, develop healthier coping mechanisms and manage stress and emotions more effectively.
- Spiritual Exploration - For many individuals, addiction is intertwined with a sense of spiritual emptiness or disconnection. We encourage and facilitate exploring this avenue of one’s being. This might involve meditation, prayer or yoga. Healing often opens the door to connect with God or a higher power and this can provide comfort, strength and meaning during your recovery journey.
- Lifestyle Changes - Holistic recovery emphasizes the importance of making positive lifestyle changes to support long-term sobriety. This may include adopting healthy habits such as regular exercising, a balanced nutrient dense diet, getting adequate sleep, engaging in activities that promote overall well-being. Creating a supportive environment surrounding oneself with positive influences can contribute to successful recovery.
- Community & Support - Building a strong support network is essential for recovery. We emphasize the importance of community and peer support. Having a network of understanding and supportive individuals can provide encouragement, accountability and a sense of belonging throughout the recovery journey.
By taking a multifaceted approach to recovery you receive a comprehensive framework for healing and transformation. We empower you to not only overcome addiction but also cultivate a fulfilling and meaningful life grounded in health, wellness, personal growth and understanding.
IV Therapy
At our clinic, IV Therapy is a mainstay of our offerings. It is a fast and effective way to deliver nutrients and therapeutic compounds directly to the cells via the bloodstream. You receive 100% of the nutrient or compound, this ultimate bioavailability.
There are a number of reasons that medications or supplements that are taken orally may not achieve their intended effect. Factors that affect the availability of medications and supplements could include:
- A compromised digestive system
- Other drugs
- Foods
- GI pH
- Bowel
- Liver and kidney’s detoxification capability
- Blinders
- Lubricants the drug is made of
Increasing the amount of a drug or supplement taken orally may achieve the level of absorption needed from a therapeutic perspective but often increased levels come with unwanted side effects such as nausea, heartburn and diarrhea.
The majority of our food is unfortunately very nutrient poor and most diets are composed of chemically processed foods completely lacking in nutrients. There are thousands of enzymatic reactions that happen every second in the body that require a combination of vitamins and minerals in order for our bodies to function. When we lack proper water, oxygen, minerals and vitamins it compromises our immune system and our ability to carry out our daily functions.
What makes us different than your average office, pop-up IV bar or mobile IV office is that a doctor interfaces with each patient and customizes each IV session to the individual addressing their needs and existing conditions, we have extensive training and are diligent to use therapeutics levels of nutrients that work synergistically together.
Chronic Illness
Chronic illness are long-lasting conditions that typically develop gradually over time and persist for prolonged periods, often for a person’s entire life. These conditions are generally not cured but managed through treatment and lifestyle modifications. Chronic diseases can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life and may lead to disabilities or even death if not properly managed. Examples include:
- Cardiovascular conditions - such as hypertension, heart disease and stroke
- Diabetes
- Chronic respiratory conditions - such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD
- Chronic kidney conditions
- Cancer
- Autoimmune conditions - such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and hashimoto's
- Neurological conditions - such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease
- Chronic infectious conditions - such as Epsteinn Barr Virus, mold, hepatitis and long covid
These conditions often share common risk factors such as unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, chronic stress and environmental factors. At Lunar Integrative Medical Group, we take a whole body approach instead of focusing solely on symptoms or the affected organ system (nothing in your body works in a vacuum). Our goal is to promote healing, enhance quality of life and optimize health outcomes as holistically as we can.
Cancer
Cancer is a complex and challenging disease that affects millions of lives every year and continues to increase each year. The conventional approach to cancer treatment has primarily relied on therapies such as chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. These have remained largely unchanged since their inception despite their failure. They may have some value in certain cases, however their effectiveness as a sole treatment is often limited.
They are not able to distinguish between healthy and cancerous cells. In their determination to kill cancer cells, they also weaken the body, causing debilitating side effects. The side effects and the impact on the patient’s quality of life are significant concerns and are overlooked by most oncologists. This is why many patients seek a more integrative approach to their cancer care. Care that addresses not only the disease itself but the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of the cancer patient. This approach is a more well-rounded and patient-centric approach to care.
The Importance of Natural-Based Treatments
Natural-based treatments, also known as integrative therapies, have been gaining attention for their to treat or support cancer care. These therapies include a range of practices and interventions, such as nutrition, intravenous therapy, botanical medicine, mind-body practices, and physical therapies.
Some key reasons why natural-based treatments are important in cancer care include:
- Reducing Treatment Side Effects - Cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation, can come with challenging side effects. Natural-based treatments can help manage these side effects, such as nausea, fatigue, and pain, improving the patient's quality of life during treatment -
- Strengthening the Immune System - Many natural-based treatments, including nutritional support, IV therapy, nutraceuticals, aim to strengthen the immune system, helping the body's natural defenses to better fight cancer cells.
- Enhancing Well-Being - Holistic cancer care focuses on the overall well-being of patients, addressing mental and emotional health through practices like meditation and mindfulness. Reducing stress and anxiety can contribute to a more positive treatment experience.
- Optimizing Nutritional Support - Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in cancer care. Emphasizing whole, unprocessed foods and dietary strategies that take into account your metabolism, genetics and particular cancer so that we can support the body's healing process.
- Personalized Treatment Plans - Comprehensive and personalized care that takes into account your unique needs and well-being. Therapies may include:
- Diet & Lifestyle
- Nutraceuticals
- Intravenous Therapy – High Dose Vitamin C, Curcumin, Methylene Blue, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Artemisinin, and Nutritional IVs
- Mistletoe
- Oxygen Therapies
- Botanical Medicine
- Detoxification
- Hydrotherapy
- Emotional Release Therapy
- CBD & Melatonin
- Pharmaceutical Medications – when appropriate
Holistic and functional medicine, with its focus on natural-based treatments, is a valuable asset to cancer care. By addressing the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of health, this approach offers a more patient-centered experience. If you or a loved one are facing a cancer diagnosis, consider exploring the potential benefits of holistic cancer care as a complementary approach to traditional treatments or as your sole cancer treatment approach.
